Mona Vale Vets are running the 2018 Pub2Pub for Assistance Dogs AustraliaAugust 10, 2018
“Seeing first-hand the joy and happiness that this beautiful dog called ‘CeeJay’ brings to this young boy, convinced us that Assistance Dogs Australia is a cause worth supporting”, said Dr Jenny Wingham, one of three partners at Mona Vale Veterinary Hospital.
A chance meeting with a family at the Pub2Pub Finish Festival led to Jenny’s comment. The family’s young boy has severe autism, but CeeJay the Assistance Dog has turned his life around.
“The bond between boy and dog has honestly helped this youngster to ‘find his words’, says Jenny. “We’ve stayed in touch with the family ever since meeting them at the Pub2Pub.”
The practice has a team of 14 including six Vets and a veterinary nursing and support staff of eight. A few are currently on maternity leave, but the practice has still been able to put together a Team of 11 to participate in this year’s Pub2Pub… and all members are taking on the challenge of the full 13km run from Dee Why to Newport.
Funds are raised by the Team at a very grass roots level… from a Collection Box at the Reception Counter to wearing T-Shirts promoting their support of A.D.A. and the Pub2Pub and the involvement of the practice with several local community groups. There’s also a very active Facebook Group disseminating the fundraising message.
Mona Vale Veterinary Hospital was one of the first Vet practices on the northern beaches. They’ve been looking after pets in Mona Vale and the surrounding suburbs of Bayview, Church Point, Warriewood, Narrabeen, Newport, Bilgola, Avalon, Whale Beach and Palm Beach for almost 50 years.
It’s a pleasure to have such a community minded practice participating in the Pub2Pub and we wish the Team every success both in the event on the day and in their fundraising efforts for Assistance Dogs Australia.
